The World Needs a Nourished Mother - Postpartum Care

Writer's picture: Danielle BakerDanielle Baker

The postpartum phase is a sacred and transformative time as the mother remerges from her rite of passage—yet it’s often misunderstood and undervalued, no surprise in the culture we live in. Many of us have been told that postpartum lasts six weeks, but the truth is, this period can extend far beyond those first months. And, not just about physical recovery; it’s about restoring a mother’s body, mind, and heart after the monumental experience of bringing life into the world.

So, where do we start?

By truly listening to the mother. Are her needs being met? How is she feeling in her body? Is her mind clear, or does she feel foggy and overwhelmed? What about her emotional and spiritual well-being—is her heart being held and supported?

The answers to these questions guide us toward the care she deserves. When you pause and really listen, you will feel her.

As we know all too well, this world isn’t set up for mother-centered care. But it doesn’t have to stay this way. Together, we can change the narrative and place the mother at the heart of the postpartum experience—where she belongs.

The Adrenal Cocktail: A Simple Way to Replenish

One of Brittany’s favorite tools for postpartum recovery is the adrenal cocktail. This nourishing drink supports adrenal health, helps stabilize energy levels, and replenishes key nutrients like vitamin C and potassium. Here’s a simple recipe to try:

Adrenal Cocktail Recipe:

  • 4 oz orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)

  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar (a great source of potassium)

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

  • Optional: 1 scoop of collagen powder

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy a refreshing mid-morning or afternoon drink.

Meal Train Recipe Ideas

Creating a meal train for a postpartum mother is one of the most supportive gestures you can offer. Here are three simple and nourishing meal ideas that focus on warmth, ease, and nutrient density:

  1. Hearty Lentil and Vegetable Soup: Packed with protein, fiber, and warming spices, this soup is easy to digest and full of flavor.

  2. Chicken Bone Broth Risotto: A comforting dish rich in collagen and minerals, perfect for supporting healing and energy.

  3. Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili: A plant-based option that’s hearty, satisfying, and full of postpartum-friendly nutrients.
