Half Moon Energy

The Waning Moon: A Time to Release

The waning moon, also known as the last quarter moon, marks the final phase of the lunar cycle. Aligned with the energies of autumn, the waning moon encourages us to shed and release. This mirrors the natural cycle of falling leaves, which nourish the soil, preparing it for new growth.

You may feel a readiness to let go and rise above what has been holding you back, or maybe there is resistance or even a blind spot. That's perfectly ok, trust yourself and your journey, all will come to light in good time.

Release is not just about letting go and saying goodbye, never to be seen again. It’s about cultivating the courage to sit with the habits, thoughts, and sensations that arise—without shutting the door on them. This practice invites us to hold space for these parts of ourselves, acknowledging their presence with compassion.

In this act of being present, we confidently affirm: "I choose only that which nourishes me." Release, then, becomes not a rejection but a gentle refinement, an intentional decision to align with what supports our growth and vitality.

Practices for the Waning Moon

  • Journaling: Write down what no longer serves you. Be honest and specific about the habits, thoughts, or attachments you’re ready to release.

  • Cozy Rituals:

    • Enjoy warming spiced drinks (think cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom) to keep a gentle internal fire burning.

    • Wrap yourself in comfort—blankets, candlelight, and nourishing self-care.

  • Clearing and Organizing:

    • Cleanse your physical space: declutter your home and organize your schedule.

    • Create room for fresh energy by clearing out the old, both physically and energetically.

Moon Meditation

Sidereal Astrology

Sidereal vs. Tropical Astrology

Sidereal astrology uses the real positions of the stars in the sky to create your chart. It differs from tropical astrology. Because the Earth’s position slowly shifts over time, sidereal astrology reflects where the stars actually are today, while tropical astrology keeps the zodiac signs fixed to the seasons. As a result, your zodiac sign might be different in sidereal astrology compared to tropical astrology.

Sun in Sagittarius: Fire Sign

Sun in Sagittarius – The Archer’s Call

The symbol of Sagittarius, The Archer, embodies a strong focus on what is meaningful and important to you. It reminds us to keep our inner flame alive, even during times of transition, such as the solstice. These transitional moments can disrupt our rituals and routines, but Sagittarius invites us to deepen into them rather than let them slip away.

This is a call to stay aligned with your vision—to aim true and keep your eye on what truly matters. It invites you to hold up a mirror and focus inward, reconnecting with your inner purpose and intentions.

Reflection Questions for Staying Aligned

  • What is my heart's vision?

  • Where in my life can I refocus to stay true to my purpose?

  • How can I remain inspired and open to growth?

  • What habits or thoughts are truly nourishing me, and which ones can I release?

Moon in Virgo: Earth Sign

Moon in Virgo: The Maiden’s Touch

Often depicted as The Maiden, Virgo carries an energy of earthy curiosity—a gentle yet determined exploration of the heart’s desires paired with the skills needed to manifest them. This energy reflects a natural progression, much like a child’s instinctive journey from crawling to walking. It’s a reminder that we are always refining, always shaping our physical bodies and lives as instruments for expressing our essence.

This phase of the Moon in Virgo invites us to focus on practical refinement. With the recent cosmic movements, such as Mercury retrograde, the energy now feels like a call to gather and organize the “fallen leaves” of the past weeks. It is a time to sort through experiences, releasing what no longer serves and creating room for clarity and fresh growth.

Virgo’s energy brings with it a sense of grounded curiosity. It encourages you to approach life with care, balance your heart’s desires with practical actions, and nurture yourself through thoughtful, incremental steps.

Reflection Questions:

  • What areas of your life feel cluttered or stagnant, and how can you bring order and clarity to them?

  • What lessons from recent challenges can help you refine your routines and support your emotional growth?

  • How can you ground your curiosity and inner desires into meaningful, practical steps toward your vision?

  • What habits or rituals could help you feel more connected to your essence and physical well-being?

  • Where in your life can you embrace patience and focus on small, steady progress?

Waning Half Moon Ritual

Honoring the Sun in Sagittarius & Moon in Virgo

This ritual invites you to release, ground, and refine with the waning moon’s energy. Sagittarius guides your vision, while Virgo offers the structure to align with it.

Ritual Intent

To release what no longer serves your purpose and create space for clarity and alignment as you prepare for the next cycle.

Steps for the Ritual

  1. Create Sacred Space (10 minutes):

    • Find a quiet place and dim the lights.

    • On your altar, place:

      • A candle to honor Sagittarius (fire element).

      • A bowl of earth or dried herbs to honor Virgo (earth element).

      • A small dish of saltwater for purification.

      • A blank sheet of paper and pen for reflection.

    • Cleanse the space by sprinkling saltwater or burning herbs.

  2. Opening Invocation (3 minutes):

    • Stand tall and say aloud:

"I call upon the expansive fire of Sagittarius to guide my vision.

I welcome the grounding earth of Virgo to bring focus and clarity.

With the waning moon, I release and refine.

May this sacred space hold me as I transition into alignment."

  3. Centering Meditation (5 minutes):

    • Light the candle. Sitting comfortably.

    • Close your eyes and take deep breaths.

      • Inhale: Visualize Sagittarius’ arrow pointing to your highest vision.

      • Exhale: Imagine Virgo’s energy helping you clear the path to that vision.

  4. Reflection & Release (10 minutes):

    • Write down what no longer serves your vision or your highest self on the paper.

    • Reflect on these prompts:

      • What habits, beliefs, or attachments feel heavy or misaligned?

      • Where can I refine my life to better support my goals?

      • What am I ready to release to reclaim my energy?

  5. Ritual Action (10 minutes):

    • Tear the paper into small pieces, symbolizing release.

    • One by one, place the pieces into the bowl of earth or herbs, saying:"I release this from my heart and my path. I let it return to the earth to transform into something new."

    • Mix the pieces with the earth, symbolizing the composting of old energy into fertile ground for growth.

  6. Movement to Anchor (5 minutes):

    • Stand and perform a simple movement ritual:

      • Raise your arms to the sky to honor Sagittarius’ expansive vision.

      • Sweep your hands down toward the earth to ground in Virgo’s energy.

      • Repeat this motion, moving with intention and feeling the balance between vision and grounding.

  7. Closing Gratitude & Intention (5 minutes):

    • Place your hands over your heart and speak your gratitude:

"I thank the fire for guiding my vision, the earth for grounding my path, and the moon for showing me the power of release."

    • Blow out the candle, signifying the completion of this cycle.
