Welcome,
As the wheel of the year turns, we approach Imbolc. The word 'Imbolc' is thought to originate from the Old Irish term imb-fholc, which translates to 'in the belly,' symbolizing gestation, potential, and the promise of new beginnings. This ancient festival marks a time to honor the return of light, the stirring of life beneath the earth, and the nurturing energies of the divine feminine.
Traditionally, Imbolc is associated with the lactation of ewes, an event that signals the arrival of lambing season and the abundance of nourishment. Ewe’s milk represents sustenance, fertility, and the nurturing care of the earth as she awakens from her winter slumber.
This connection reminds us of the cyclical nature of life, inviting us to tend to the seeds—both literal and metaphorical—that we wish to grow in the coming seasons.
The Sacred Essence of Imbolc
Rooted in ancient Celtic traditions, Imbolc marks the halfway point between winter and spring. It welcomes the energy of the goddess Brigid, a powerful symbol of fertility, healing, creativity, and transformation. Over time, this celebration merged with Christian traditions, becoming St. Brigid’s Day.
This sacred time is a moment to purify, release, and set intentions for the year ahead. As we honor the earth’s nurturing power, we open ourselves to deep listening and reconnection with the land, our ancestors, and our inner wisdom.
